Introduction to the KPS

Background

The health workforce is one of the key resources that makes up the national health care system. Physicians are the essential human resource that play a pivotal role in the health care system. A good understanding of overall status physicians makes it possible to operate health care system stably and efficiently. The Research Institute for Healthcare Policy of Korean Medical Association seeks to contribute to building a sound medical environment and improving national health by generating physician data.

Purpose

The purpose of the KPS is not only to diagnose various problems arising from physicians’ patient care, education, training, and working environment but to identify physicians’ awareness toward various healthcare policies and issues.

Survey Design

Subject Selection

2016 KPS conducted using a population of about 120,000 physicians from the Korean Medical Association’s membership database. The membership DB was used as a sampling frame and Stratified Quota Sampling method was also used in which the stratification variables, for example, gender, age, practice site, are considered.

Method

In the 2016 KPS, a Computer Aided Web Interview(CAWI) method was introduced. The survey questionnaires were sent and collected via e-mails in cooperation with survey company. The survey was conducted for 7 weeks from November 21, 2016 to January 8, 2017. Among 61,983 e-mail recipients, total of 8,564 recipients responded(13.8% Response Rate).
